About THe Artist

George R. Hoelzeman is a leading liturgical artist and consultant specializing in sacred sculpture, sanctuary furnishings, devotional works, liturgical objects, and bespoke artistic pieces, each prayerfully created to enhance the sacramental character of liturgical space. Hoelzeman has been creating liturgical art of creative design and enduring quality since 1989.

George studied for the monastic priesthood (Benedictine) at St. Joseph Seminary College and has taught art, art history, religion, and world history at Catholic High School in Little Rock. He continues to lead workshops and retreats focused on liturgical art and architecture and Visio Divina.

Since 2022 he has served as President of the Association of Consultants for Liturgical Space (ACLS). In this role, he represents ACLS in collaboration with the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC) and the Southwest Liturgical Conference (SWLC). He is also a professional member of the FDLC, an Oblate of St. Benedict, and a Knight of the Holy Sepulcher.

Why we're different

What sets George apart is a deeply rooted understanding of the Catholic liturgical tradition, combined with a commitment to theological precision, spiritual depth, and artistic excellence. This is made possible, in part, by an extensive academic and spiritually informed foundation.

George's academic background includes a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from St. John's School of Theology (Collegeville, MN) and a BA in Religion from St. Joseph's Seminary College (St. Benedict, LA). He als has advanced academic background in early modern history, and medieval art history. In addition, George holds professional certificates from the Institute for Liturgical Consultancy (Catholic Theological Union, Chicago) and Liturgiam Provehens Architectura (Architecture for Liturgy, St. Benedict Abbey, St. Joseph, Kansas).

His work has appeared in a range of liturgical, theological, and historical publications, including Traditional Building, the Encyclopedia of Holy People, the Encyclopedia of Medieval Pilgrimage, and Georgetown University’s EnVision Church. His contributions to liturgical art have been recognized with two BENE Awards and honors from Christians in the Visual Arts (CIVA). He is also featured in the Arkansas Library Association’s Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture.
